Since November 2022, I have been writing a column about mental strength in the newspaper “Der Ybbstaler”.

In response möI would like to quote the goal of one of my clients: “I am the captain in my life!”
This means that they go through life self-determined and in control of every situation. Many of us feel like we are running on a hamster wheel, which in the worst case can lead to burnout. It is estimated that approximately 42% of öAustrian populationölkeration at risk of burnout. The general conditions that have shaped our lives in recent years are stressful and challenging for many. With the appropriate mental strength, they manage to stay mentally healthy and cope well with current and future challenges.
With mental strength, they are good when it counts. They call on their full potential at the right time. Many people know that in top sports mental training is integrated in the daily training routine, because mental strength is crucial for winning.
Let’s remember back to 1998 when Hermann Maier had his spectacular fall at the Olympic Games. The next day he won the gold medal in the next race. He focused on the race at the decisive moment and mentally blocked out the heavy crash the day before.
This summer the ensemble of the Waidhofner Volksbühne proved mental strength. Due to an accident one of the main actors dropped out and within 24h a replacement was found, the performances were saved and the audience could enjoy special performances. Here, everyone in front of and behind the stage showed nerves of steel, as there were no coordinated procedures and such comödienes live from the right timing of the actions and the punchlines.
In our everyday life, mental strength helps us to act in stressful or challenging situations the way we actually want to act.
With mental strength you always keep a cool head even if things don’t go as planned. Everyday heroes who give first aid to an injured person, even though the last first aid course was too long ago, are mentally strong.
For some, exams, job interviewsprerequisites foräsentationen or even the first date are quite stressful situations. This is where mental toughness helps you turn that stress into positive energy, allowing you to show your full potential.
Everyone has mental strength. Some are aware of them while others do not perceive them that way.
With the tips and exercises in the coming columns, I’ll show them how they can build and develop their own mental strength.önnen können.
